Position: Director of Bioinformatics
Location: Tristate area
Duration: Full Time / Permanent / Direct Hire

Job Summary:

The Director of Bioinformatics is responsible for leading a team of analysts and engineers that analyze and organize clinical genomics information for GenPath molecular diagnostic departments to improve diagnostic tests efficacy, reporting, and turnaround time.

Specific Job Experience:

Work with stakeholders to define and document needs, and design solutions to support analysis, interpretation, and reporting of new and existing genomics clinical diagnostic assays.

Manage programs/projects within schedule constraints according to specifications.

Maintain and improve existing production analysis and reporting genomics pipelines.

Manage the creation of new analysis and reporting pipelines, and transfer prototype pipelines into production.

Coordinates, manages, oversees, or ensures compliance with HIPAA, and privacy and security practices.

Responsible for the software development lifecycle of all systems supported from requirements gathering to software design, implementation, testing, deployment, validation, and ongoing system support.

Supervisory responsibilities for the bioinformatics team including personnel and process leadership.

Requirements:

A track record (at least 5 years) of building, organizing and leading informatics teams with diverse skills focused on the analysis, interpretation and reporting of clinical genomics data in business environment utilizing software-based workflow tools and integrated device automation.

Must have expertise in designing or implementing tools for Next Generation Sequencing analysis pipelines.

Demonstrate ability to promote and maintain good interpersonal relationships, and a proficiency in team building and group interaction.

Demonstrated experience with evaluating end-users needs.

Expert knowledge in bioinformatics, computational analyses of sequence data, genetics/genomics and quality control/quality assurance analyses.

Experience working with DNA sequence, variation, and annotation databases (dbSNP, redSeq, CCDS, UCSC, Ensembl, GO, HGMD, etc), manipulating, analyzing, and annotating very large genomic data sets, both in exploratory and pipelined fashions.

Previous coding experience - scripting and OO languages such as .NET, C++, Python, Perl, Javascript, Java, Ruby, Shell, etc.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

A PhD degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Engineering Sciences, or Mathematics
• Experience in the healthcare industry
• Effectively communicate the capabilities and limitations of information technologies to non-technical audiences.
• Understanding of process improvement and continuous quality improvement processes and methodologies.
• Strong strategic focus and results orientation.
• Ability to lead cross-functional teams in Discovery and Development.
• Strong interpersonal negotiation skills, ability to lead teams to consensus.
